Is a Pretty Smile More than Skin Deep?People with gum disease who focus on whitening their teeth may be ignoring the much more serious problem of periodontal disease, a past president of the American Dental Hygienists Associations told Americans during a Radio Media Tour. We are a nation consumed with tummy tucks, Botox-injected foreheads and whiter smiles. In 2001 alone, more than $25 billion was spent on bleaching, bonding, veneers, toothpastes and other smile-enhancing procedures. But even though one-third of Americans are focusing on cosmetics enhancements such as these, one out of every three Americans has some form of gum disease and isn't addressing this serious medical problem. Tobin Communications, Inc., however, really sunk its teeth into this issue on behalf of Fleishman-Hillard client OraPharma and racked up dozens of interviews during which thousands of Americans learned about the benefits of oral health and what it really means to have a "beautiful" smile. |
