National Wildlife Federation - ENDANGERED SPECIES ACT

mp3 Listen to the Mp3

Announcer: IS AMERICA DOING ENOUGH TO PROTECT ITS ENDANGERED PLANTS, FISH AND WILDLIFE?

I'M MAURY TOBIN REPORTING FOR THE NATIONAL WILDLIFE FEDERATION.

ACCORDING TO A NEW REPORT, THE U.S. GOVERNMENT'S FINANCIAL COMMITMENT FOR SAVING ENDANGERED SPECIES ISN'T ADEQUATE.

CORRY WESTBROOK, SPOKESPERSON FOR THE NATIONAL WILDLIFE FEDERATION, EXPLAINS:

Corry Westbrook: America's endangered species are at a crossroads. While some species like the bald eagle are soaring to success, others, like the polar bear, are being pushed closer to extinction by global warming.

If we are to pass on a wildlife legacy we can be proud of, Congress must step up and provide the proper funding for endangered species recovery.

For years, we've been defending the Endangered Species Act from attacks in Congress -- now, we have an opportunity to go on the offensive and move the ball forward for wildlife.

For the cost of just one cup of coffee per citizen per year, Americans can restore healthy populations of wildlife and their habitats.
